Core Practice and Motif

I am a mixed-media artist based in Ottawa, Canada.

My practice bridges the spontaneous energy of painting with the measured, intentional pace of fibre art. My work is a continuous, intuitive exploration of botanical motifs, colour harmony, and line, rooted in a deep appreciation for nature and organic forms.

Process As Dialogue

The tension between my chosen materials is central to my practice. Painting offers instant gratification and direct mark-making, while embroidery demands a slow, reflective discipline. This duality allows me to challenge the arbitrary line historically drawn between "craft" and "fine art," asserting the validity and conceptual depth of textile arts. My method is largely intuitive and unfolds organically, rarely trapped by initial plans. The result is a body of work that inherently possesses natural movement and vitality.

Content and Intent

This methodology has found its most potent expression in my current series, which acts as a postpartum reflection. By revisiting quiet moments—such as a simple bouquet of flowers—I investigate how life's profound complexity is often hidden beneath a calm exterior. I deliberately incorporate visible sketches and preliminary construction lines into the final pieces. This technique forces the viewer’s attention onto the effort and the journey of creation, both artistic and personal.

Ultimately, I seek to draw the viewer in with initial harmony, only to reward their extended looking with subtle surprise. By revealing the hidden effort, I encourage the audience to reflect on the unseen loads and persistent perseverance that underpin mastery and everyday life, especially within the context of female-identifying people under the patriarchy. I want people to understand that process, in and of itself, is valuable, beautiful, and the essential substance of the work.
